Management systems provide a framework to help companies move towards their goals. Safety management systems are management systems with a safety spin. Management concepts are not difficult, once you get used to the language. Sometimes, it does get a bit overdressed. Safety is increasingly being seen as just another business risk that needs to be managed, just like other aspects of the business. Business management systems have been used for many years, so it makes absolute sense to apply it to safety too
